Crisis Prevention

CPI Training in Riverside

Anyone who has worked a memory care unit, an emergency department, or a group home knows the moment: a resident or patient starts to escalate, voices rise, and everyone in the room looks for the person who knows what to do. CPI training makes you that person.

CEU Connect offers crisis prevention intervention training at our Riverside center for healthcare workers and facility staff across Riverside County. The focus is prevention first: reading the early signs of agitation, responding in ways that lower the temperature, and keeping everyone in the room safe, including the person in crisis.

This training pairs naturally with the rest of what we teach. Many students complete CPI alongside their CEU hours or CPR renewal, in the same building, from instructors they already trust.

Who CPI training is for

Escalating behavior shows up anywhere people are stressed, scared, or confused. Facilities increasingly expect their staff to hold crisis prevention training, and many roles now require it at hiring.

If your work puts you close to patients, residents, students, or the public in tense moments, this course is for you.

  • Healthcare staff and caregivers in skilled nursing and memory care
  • Nurses and aides in hospitals and clinics
  • Home health workers who enter unpredictable environments alone
  • Group home, behavioral health, and school staff
  • Security and front-desk staff who meet the public first

What you learn

The heart of CPI is de-escalation: the discipline of staying calm, choosing words carefully, and using body position and tone to bring a situation down instead of up. You learn to spot the stages of escalating behavior early, when small responses still work, and how to respond at each stage without making things worse.

You also learn what to do when prevention is not enough: how to keep yourself and others safe, how to protect the dignity of the person in crisis, and how to help a team debrief and recover after an incident so it does not happen the same way twice.

Like everything at CEU Connect, this is taught with practice and discussion, because reading a slide about de-escalation and actually doing it in a hallway are two different skills.

Why it matters for your career

Crisis prevention training protects your body, your credential, and your patients. Staff injuries in healthcare frequently trace back to escalations that were handled late or handled wrong. The aide who can calm a frightened resident without hands ever being involved is safer, more valuable to their facility, and better at the job.

For nurses and healthcare staff building a resume, CPI training alongside current CPR and finished CEU hours tells an employer one clear story: this person takes the work seriously.
